2019 Wellington Regional Climbing Competition

Dynomites Wellington Sport Climbing Club and Hangdog Rock Climbing Centre are proud to host this regional two-day indoor climbing competition for climbers of all ages and levels.

Saturday will focus on roped climbing and Sunday will be a bouldering competition. You may sign up for one or both disciplines.

This year we have introduced an ‘Adult for Fun’ category for adults new to climbing and/or competing or who don’t yet know how to lead climb.

Due to the size of the venue, we may need to impose limits on competitor numbers. So get in quick!

Tickets available from Eventfinda (Please note that a booking fee is added onto the ticket information displayed on the Eventfinda listing):

Costs
One discipline $20

Format

Roped Climbing

Qualifiers for the finals will all be on top rope, and will be scored using and self-scoring honesty basis. If you complete the climb, you record your own score.

Climbs will be assigned points. Completing a climb will result in gaining all the points for the climb.

Points will directly correlate to grade. That is, a grade 19 climb will be worth 19 points

Holds partially up the climbs will gain the climber partial points. That is, a grade 15 climb will have a hold part way up that is worth 5 points, another hold further up worth another 5 points, and the final hold worth the last 5 points.

The top 3 climbers from each grade will be determined by those climbers with the most points

Qualifiers will last 2 hours and finals will follow

Finals will be conducted with formal judges and athletes in isolation

Bouldering

All climbers will have 2 hours attain the maximum number of points. Harder problems will be worth more points. The top 7 climbs for each climber will be counted.

The top 3 from each category will be competing in a formal bouldering final

There will be a food stall, and great climbing over the weekend.

Please note that the event will be filmed and photographed and highlights may be shown in public media such as YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. By entering into this event, you give consent for your image to be used unless the organizers are informed otherwise in writing before the event.
